Over another hurdle!

Well, we have jumped another hurdle. This morning Luke's potassium was at a dangerous level and his kidneys were barely working. The doctor came to us and said we could possibly explore a type of dialysis to see if it could be done on someone his size but he could die in the process or we could sit tight and pray and see if he improved. Eric and I were immediately in agreement that we would sit tight and pray. Within hours his potassium level was down to a manageable level. His kidneys are working just not at a normal level. We met with a kidney specialist who feels they will get back up to speed, but with all the other stuff he has going on they are in a state of reduced flow. He remains very swollen and this is affecting his lungs. He remains on very high oxygen and vent settings. Overall he is very sick and critical but stable for now. We are so thankful for the doctor we have had the last few days. He is ready to try many different strategies to get Luke through these difficult times and seems very open to prayer. This is the second day we have been able to speak with him about prayer. We definitely felt the peace of the Holy Spirit today. As we face of some hard news and hard decisions God blesses us with unity as a couple, clarity, and calm in the midst of the storm. We find strength and refuge in our Lord.

Psalm 91:1-2 "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.'"

Eric and Susan,
God has blessed you both with unity and wisdom in the decisions you are making for your son. I'm praying strength and healing for Luke tonight; that God will give each of you much needed rest tonight and good news in the morning.

Heim Family,
I am awake at 1:30 AM and praying for Luke. I am also praying for you both, for your stregth and rest. It is such a blessing and testimony to daily see you turn Luke over to the Lord. I am praying that God's hand move over Luke's body and heal each system of his tiny body.
As you face each "hurdle" you remind me of Job. As each trial came he said he knew God was able to take away pain he faced, but even if He did not, "yet I will praise Him." You are a blessing to so many people. Stay strong and know you are being lifted up all around the world. Much love,
Melinda

Eric and Susan,
This is Jeff Johnson from choir
When I got the e-mail from Dan where John King was asking everyone to pray for Luke @9pm I immediately forwarded the e-mail to my Sunday School Class Warriors as well as some Christian friends at work. I prayed for God's Peace to cover Luke & your entire family.I checked my oxygen saturation level before I started praying and it was 95% on room air.I asked GOD to raise Luke's oxygen saturation level to 97% and reduce the carbon dioxide to normal levels in his blood gas
Thank You for sharing the works of our AWESOME GOD as we watch how HE has brought Luke thru so much and is continuing to bring him thru now
Proverbs 3:5-6

Love In Christ,
Jeff and Brenda

You are in my constant thoughts and I am amazed at how much you have touched my life and how much closer I have become to God and with my prayer life thru all of this. Luke is a blessing to everyone who reads this, as are you both.

Dear Heim family,
Please know we joined with everyone in praying for you last night. We continue to pray for our Heavenly Father, the great Physician to heal every "need" going on in Luke's body and every "need" in every heart of the Heim family as you wait, watch and pray. Lifting you up all through our days and nights, Kristi and Scott

Eric and Susan,
We are praying for your entire family. Susan, as a mother, I can only imagine what you must be going through. Your faith and courage are tremendous and it is obvious that God is listening as he gets Luke through these tough times. We will continue to pray for you all.

Eric and Susan,
I just had bible study at my house last night and all of the girls are praying for you. I had a burden on my heart to pray for you most of the day yesterday. Please know that the LORD is moving His people to intercede for you. Your blog is such a testimony to the LORD and His perfect plan. I check it daily to see what the LORD is doing and love the pictures of little Luke. May you rest in the shelter of His wings.
Love,

Eric and Susan,

I finally figured out how to leave a comment. Just wanted you to know I have been interceding for Luke and constantly read the blog for updates. God is in control and is working thru Luke to show everyone His Glory and Power. Stay strong in His arms.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jer 29:11

Eric and Susan,
We are praying for Luke and your family, for his lungs to gain strength, for infection to leave his body, and that his kidneys would improve. What a blessing to have a doctor open to prayer. I know it is difficult not to hold him, but know without doubt that God is holding Luke in his hand. We love you!
